The NSU Research & Innovation Foundation exists to transform academic discovery into tangible economic outcomes for Hampton Roads and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Mission Statement
“To promote applied research, enable technological innovations, and generate real estate solutions to benefit NSU — while contributing positively to the economic strength of Norfolk, Hampton Roads, and the Commonwealth of Virginia.”
Established in 2001, the NSU Research & Innovation Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) affiliate that transforms academic research into tangible economic outcomes for the City of Norfolk, the Hampton Roads region, and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Since 2001
Our History
2001
The NSU Research & Innovation Foundation is established as an independent 501(c)(3) affiliate, created to bridge academic research with economic development for Hampton Roads and Virginia.
2005
The Foundation expands its scope to include technology transfer and commercialization services, supporting NSU faculty in patent development and industry partnerships.
2015
Strategic real estate initiatives launch, positioning the Foundation as a key driver of physical and economic development in the Norfolk innovation corridor.
Today
With three subsidiaries, a growing board of exceptional leaders, and a proven track record of impact, the Foundation continues to fuel applied research, commercialize breakthrough technologies, and drive economic growth across Virginia’s most dynamic region.
