Biography
Dr. Doyle Temple chairs the Department of Physics at Norfolk State University and leads both the Quantum Electronics Group and the Crystal Physics and Quantum Electronics Laboratory. His research spans single-crystalline quantum material synthesis, structural and magnetic characterization, surface acoustic wave-coupled plasmonics, and ultrafast laser spectroscopy.
Temple joined Louisiana State University in 1988 as the first African American faculty member in its College of Basic Sciences, and that same year founded Applied Physics Inc. — the first faculty-founded company in the LSU Business and Technology Center and its first to win an SBIR award. He later chaired physics at Hampton University during the launch of that institution’s first doctoral program. He came to NSU in 2010 as Director of the Center for Materials Research and a Class A member of NSURIF. Across his career he has chaired two departments and directed five university research centers. He holds a Ph.D. in physics from MIT and a B.S. from Southern University.
